Eco-Friendly & Socially Responsible
Social and ecological responsibilities are the two pillars of our organization, and inform our employee and client experience.
Our products and garments do not contain substances that are harmful to the environment. The alpaca fiber comes directly from the shearing and is dyed using only natural products.
It is worth mentioning that we have an active participation from the Abandoned Dog Shelter (Help us to Help) in Cerro Colorado - Arequipa. We contribute with the delivery of plastic sheets or another items that generates the maintenance of the shelter of dogs. In addition, we provide food for the dogs at the shelter.
One product! Many processes! 100% FAIR PRICES!
Sustainable clothes don’t have to be expensive, because fair trade doesn't end with the production of clothing. It sets the point with responsible pricing for consumers. We are redefining the word "fair" and want to consciously initiate a debate about profit margins in the sustainable fashion industry.
We believe that through responsible pricing, the market can be opened up to more people. This benefits everyone, the environment, the producers and also the consumers.
Material
Baby Alpacas are sheared once a year in the spring. In each shearing we can obtain roughly 5 to 10 pounds of fleece. Baby alpaca hair is 22.5 microns wide, lightweight and strong. It comes from the underside of the neck of the animal, where the wool is the softest. It comes from the first shearing, right after that their hair starts growing thicker. It is highly valued in the industry and is considered a luxurious fiber. It is very common to think that baby alpaca wool comes literally from a baby animal and why wouldn't you believe that, after all, that's what the name says. However, baby alpaca wool is not taken from a baby, it refers, usually, to a one-year-old alpaca and is related to the thickness of the fiber.
The Alpaca fiber we use in our products comes from Inca Tops, a Peruvian company that has developed the production of alpaca yarns to the highest quality, with the most eco-friendly processes. Like us, they are also involved in social responsibility programs.
Alpaca fiber vs sheep fiber vs cotton
Alpaca wool weighs one third of sheep’s wool, it keeps you extremely warm, doesn’t scratch, is hypoallergenic, durable, water and odor repellent and is often compared to cashmere and mohair due to its soft, luxurious feel. Alpaca wool is well proven do more than any synthetic material. No wonder it has been used as a raw material for clothing in the Andes for thousands of years...
Our baby alpaca wool is produced by Inca Tops and Michell Group located in Arequipa, Peru, in accordance with international quality standards. Everything is tested by an international, independent laboratory for harmful substances - from yarn and fabrics to ready-to-use articles.
Textile products receive the ‘STANDARD 100’ label, by OEKO-TEX member institutes, if they successfully pass extensive testing for the absence of harmful chemicals. Alpaquitas AQP - Peru is proud to have earned this label. (For more information, at www.oeko-tex.com.)
